Caption: Wednesday night before the gates opened we were treated to a spectacular lightning show. The storm cell was far off to the northeast, so the playa was completely dry.
Because I haven’t got a lightning trigger I had to set up a tripod and shoot 1-3 second exposures over and over until I happened to get one with lightning lancing across the frame. This was made particularly difficult by all the freakin’ work lights everywhere.
As the evening progressed, rain rolled in and I packed away my gear. I went far out on the open playa by the trash fence. I tilted back the seat of my van, a panoramic view of the lightning slashing across the sky. And eventually fell asleep to the pelting of desert rain. Glorious.
