Caption: For many years Dennis Hinkamp brought larger Twinkiehenges to the playa, leaving them in the Coffee Shop. So this year I decided to ask him if he’d be willing to recreate the phenomenon for the cameras.
Unfortunately the company that made the damn things shut down amid a media frenzy. So for a while it looked like we might have to import some Twinkies from Canada, where licensed production was unaffected.
In the end, however, US operations were restarted and a renewed flow of grotesque yet addictive snack cakes has been resumed. Dennis was able to make another henge using his patented drying process, though he noted with some disdain that the new Twinkies ain’t what they used to be...
Note that this photo is actual a bit of a cheat. During its time in the Media Mecca lounge, some miscreants actually ate (or at least tried to eat) some of the orthostats and lintels, so by the time I got to it sections were missing! I had to photo-composite a final henge together. This is known in Britain as “bodging.”
