Caption: Artwork is carefully mapped out on the playa, and special markers are placed in advance at predetermined coordinates - clock position and distance in feet from the Man. These markers are then used by the artists to site their installations.
The markers, recycled CDs tufted neon pink, are referred to by the Artery team as floofies. I like this tremendously, especially when you hear some big burly DPW guy saying stuff like, “hey y’all - you know where the floofy is?”
I also wonder what future floofies will look like, now that optical discs are becoming rapidly extinct.
