Caption: The distant thunderstorm this year was utterly spectacular. But lightning is such a hassle to photograph without a lightning trigger, since you obviously never know where and when it’s going to strike. A long lens yields more dramatic shots, but you’re less likely to get the shot as a smaller patch of sky is visible. Wide angle means you’ll get the lightning, but it’ll be disappointingly far away.
In the end, a short telephoto did the trick. And the lightning lined up perfectly with the temple’s towers. Awesome!
Sadly the wind caused the tripod to vibrate, so this shot doesn’t enlarge very well. You can’t have it all.
