  • Caption: Once the wheel was rotating fast enough a strobe light kicked in, and the animated skeletons flickered into motion.

    This was a complicated photo to achieve. Peter’s work is notoriously difficult for us photographers, as the illusion is entirely dependent on motion and persistence of vision. Works much better on video - or in person!

    To get this shot, and to try and convey the stuttering motion of the animation in a single frame, I took one shot with a very high shutter speed and one shot with a slower one, then composited them together.
