Caption: I knew when I first saw sketches of the Horse that I needed to photograph the procession from above. I wanted a Zeus’ eye view of the great horse pull, watching the hundreds of antlike mortals hauling the great wooden beast.
Months of planning with crane god and fellow photographer Gary Wilson culminated in this shot. It was unbelievable how fast the horse rumbled across the plain - it wasn’t the slow and stately procession that everybody anticipated!
I also barely got the photo, as the “slaves” took off unexpectedly early, and there was a lot of mad scrambling in the cage basket.
