Nowhere 2005

I've been to Burning Man every year since 1998. But sometimes you need to take a break. And so 2005 has turned out to be my burner fallow year. Of course, the fact I moved to London last year is a big part of it - trans-Atlantic holidays can be pretty costly.

So instead we went Nowhere. It's the second year this European burner gathering has come together in a remote region of Spain - this time in the dusty hills of Zaragoza.

Obviously with fewer than 100 participants it lacks the grand artistic flights of money and fancy that is Burning Man, but it also brings with it a greater sense of intimacy. With a smaller group you get to know people much better, and we certainly met some groovy people this year.

Packing up day was marred by a massive hail and thunderstorm, which made getting all our crap together rather challenging. I watched the approaching thunderhead on the last afternoon. It was like a special effect from a movie - billowing clouds of white reaching out high, high in the sky like puffy cotton wool hands. And then the heavens opened with a vengeance.

I also have a selection of photographs from London Decompression 2005, including some studio photography.
